Nashville, TN – The National Weather Service in Nashville has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Cumberland Plateau region, effective from 6 p.m. Thursday to 2 a.m. Friday.
The advisory includes Cumberland, Fentress, Overton, Putnam, and White Counties, covering communities such as Cookeville, Crossville, Sparta, Livingston, and Jamestown.
Forecasters expect a wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet, and light snow, resulting in around one-tenth of an inch of ice and up to half an inch of snow. The mixed precipitation could lead to slippery road conditions, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and untreated surfaces.
According to meteorologist Baggett with the NWS, hazardous travel may develop during the evening hours and continue into early Friday morning before temperatures slowly rise.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check road conditions by dialing 511 before heading out.
Conditions should improve after sunrise Friday as precipitation tapers off and road treatment crews begin work.
