Nashville, Tenn. – Drivers in Nashville should prepare for slick spots on I-40 late Sunday as scattered thunderstorms move through Middle Tennessee. Temperatures will rebound quickly, with highs climbing back into the low 90s by Monday afternoon, making for a hot and unsettled start to the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, a line of showers and isolated thunderstorms could develop between 1 and 9 p.m. Sunday. While rainfall amounts remain light, brief downpours may reduce visibility along I-40 and I-65, especially during the evening commute.

By Monday, skies turn mostly sunny with a high near 93°F. Winds will stay light, but heat will drive afternoon discomfort, particularly for outdoor workers and school sports practices. Residents should stay hydrated and limit strenuous activity during peak hours.

The week’s trend remains hot and dry, with highs near 94°F through Wednesday. Nights will stay mild in the mid-60s, giving little relief from daytime heat. Emergency managers urge residents to check on elderly neighbors as late-summer warmth lingers longer than usual for mid-September.

Storm chances return late in the week, with scattered showers possible Thursday night into Friday. Any storms could briefly impact travel on area highways, though widespread severe weather is not expected at this time.

Warnings are not currently in effect, but the NWS will monitor storm potential closely.
