Memphis, TN – Extreme heat and a chance for isolated severe storms are creating a one-two weather punch across the Mid-South Monday, with Memphis and surrounding areas facing heat indices up to 108°F and storms potentially rolling in by late afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m., with dangerous heat impacting much of eastern Arkansas, the Memphis metro, and parts of north Mississippi. Afternoon thunderstorms are expected to develop between 4 p.m. and midnight, moving west-northwest to east-southeast, with wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail possible.
The Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather includes Jonesboro, Dyersburg, Jackson, and Memphis, though tornadoes are not expected. Storms may pop up quickly, so residents should have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially as conditions shift in the evening.
Locals are urged to avoid strenuous activity during peak heat, hydrate frequently, and never leave pets or children in vehicles. If storms strike, secure loose outdoor items and stay indoors away from windows.
Storms should weaken after midnight, but additional advisories may be issued if conditions persist.
