Memphis, TN – Another round of storms is expected across the Mid-South today, with forecasters warning of isolated severe weather between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the region faces a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe thunderstorms. The primary threats include damaging winds over 60 mph and periods of heavy rainfall. While large hail and tornadoes are not anticipated, officials caution that localized flooding may develop as storms track from west-northwest to east-northeast through the evening.
Communities across west Tennessee, northern Mississippi, eastern Arkansas, and southeast Missouri are included in the risk zone. Memphis, Jonesboro, Oxford, and surrounding cities may experience weather-related travel delays and scattered power outages as gusty winds could bring down trees or powerlines.
Forecasters urge residents to stay indoors during storms, secure loose outdoor items, and have multiple ways to receive alerts in case warnings are issued. Motorists are also advised to use caution, as heavy rainfall could reduce visibility and create slick road conditions during the evening commute.
The National Weather Service will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as storms move through the region late this afternoon and into tonight.
