Memphis, Tennessee – A high-impact winter storm could bring dangerous travel conditions and widespread power outages across the Mid-South beginning Friday afternoon, with impacts expected to last through Sunday afternoon. Roads may quickly become impassable as snow, sleet, and freezing rain spread across the region, especially during the Friday evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for portions of east Arkansas, southeast Missouri, north Mississippi, and west Tennessee. Areas north of the Tennessee–Mississippi state line could see more than 3 inches of snow and sleet with ice accumulations up to a quarter inch. Locations south of the state line may see over 2 inches of snow and sleet, along with ice totals exceeding a quarter inch.

In Tennessee, impacts are expected across Shelby, Fayette, Tipton, Haywood, Madison, Gibson, and surrounding counties, including Memphis, Bartlett, Germantown, Collierville, Millington, and Brownsville. Major routes such as I-40, I-55, I-240, and U.S. 51 are likely to become slick, with bridges and overpasses freezing first.

Forecasters warn that ice buildup on power lines and trees could lead to outages and downed limbs. Residents are urged to delay non-essential travel, prepare emergency supplies, and plan for potential power disruptions.

The Winter Storm Watch remains in effect through Sunday afternoon, and additional warnings or advisories are expected as confidence increases in snowfall and ice impacts.
