Memphis, Tenn. – A brutal stretch of heat will bake West Tennessee and the Mid-South on Thursday, with the National Weather Service warning of dangerous heat index values up to 106°F in Memphis and surrounding areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Heat Advisory remains in effect through 9 p.m. Friday for West Tennessee, Southeast Missouri, East Arkansas, and North Mississippi. The heat index will climb above 100°F for much of Thursday afternoon, with high humidity pushing the “feels-like” temperature into dangerous territory.
Hotspots like I-40 through Memphis, Jackson, and Brownsville will be especially hazardous during the late afternoon, when heat stress risk peaks. Cities under the advisory include Germantown, Bartlett, Collierville, and Southaven, Mississippi.
Residents should stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity to early hours, and check on the elderly or those without access to air conditioning. Symptoms of heat exhaustion include dizziness, nausea, and excessive sweating. Wear light clothing and avoid strenuous work outdoors between 1–6 p.m.
This is part of a multi-day heat wave expected to stretch into the weekend. Although chances for showers and storms hover around 20% each day, no significant cooling is expected until next week.
Next Update: If conditions worsen, the NWS may extend the advisory or issue additional heat warnings.
