Memphis, Tenn. – Brutal heat will grip the Mid-South through Friday evening, with heat index values reaching up to 105°F across parts of Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, and southeast Missouri.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. CDT Friday for a wide area, including Memphis, Jonesboro, Tupelo, and Union City. The combination of high humidity and upper-90s temperatures will create dangerous conditions, particularly in the late afternoon hours.
Cities like Tupelo, Jackson, and Dyersburg may see “feels-like” temperatures peak above 103°F, pushing the threshold for heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Emergency management officials urge residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity, and avoid direct sun exposure during peak heat. Those without reliable air conditioning should seek local cooling centers or check with city services.
In urban centers like Memphis and Southaven, the urban heat island effect may intensify conditions into the evening. Rural counties across northeast Arkansas and northwest Mississippi are also under elevated risk, especially for outdoor workers and vulnerable groups.
Temperatures will remain high through early next week. Additional heat advisories may be issued as conditions persist.
