Nashville, TN – Residents across Middle and Eastern Tennessee should prepare for a full day of severe storms on Sunday, with the greatest threats including damaging winds up to 60 mph and hail measuring up to one inch.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, the storm system is expected to affect the region throughout the day and into Sunday night, with areas such as Nashville, Chattanooga, and McMinnville under a “Marginal” to “Slight” risk for severe weather. The primary threats include strong wind gusts and heavy rainfall, though the chance for tornadoes remains low.

The system will move eastward, impacting counties stretching from Clarksville and Columbia to as far south as Huntsville and east to Knoxville. Chattanooga and nearby areas such as Dalton, Georgia, are positioned within the “Slight Risk” zone, indicating the potential for short-lived but isolated intense storms.

Officials urge residents to remain weather-aware by monitoring local alerts and having multiple ways to receive warning information. Travelers should also avoid flooded roadways and remember the safety message: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”

This storm system, while not expected to produce widespread tornado activity, may disrupt travel and outdoor plans across much of the state through late Sunday.
