Nashville, TN – The mild air over Middle Tennessee this morning will give way to a sharp December cooldown as a strong push of arctic air slides south into the region. Clouds will increase through the day before temperatures rise into the mid-40s, but by Saturday night, that same air mass will turn biting cold — and could bring a brief mix of rain and snow before the freeze sets in.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, highs near 57°F Friday will crash into the teens and 20s by Sunday morning, marking one of the coldest weekends of the season so far. Forecasters are tracking a narrow band of moisture that may produce light rain changing to snow Saturday evening, especially north and east of the city. Even a light dusting could create slick spots on bridges and overpasses before dawn Sunday.

Travelers heading into or out of Davidson, Rutherford, and Williamson counties should plan for strong northwest winds and rapid temperature drops late Saturday. The National Weather Service advises residents to check antifreeze levels, secure outdoor pipes, and keep pets indoors as wind chills dip into the teens.

Sunday will feel more like mid-January — sunny but frigid, with highs struggling to reach 24°F before another rebound begins early next week.

Five-Day Outlook:

  • Friday: Mostly sunny, high 57°F, breezy.
  • Saturday: Cloudy, rain/snow chance, high 47°F, low 15°F.
  • Sunday: Sunny, high 24°F, low 11°F.
  • Monday: Mostly sunny, high 39°F.
  • Tuesday: Partly cloudy, high 48°F.
