Nashville, Tennessee – Drivers across Middle Tennessee could face sudden crosswinds and blowing debris starting Sunday afternoon as strong southerly winds ramp up across the region. Gusts reaching 40 mph may push high-profile vehicles on open highways like I-40, I-65, and I-24, especially during the late-day travel period.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, a Wind Advisory takes effect at 1 p.m. Sunday and continues until 1 a.m. Monday for much of Middle Tennessee. Sustained winds between 15 and 25 mph are expected, with stronger gusts capable of snapping small tree limbs and briefly knocking out power in scattered areas.

Communities including Clarksville, Murfreesboro, Lebanon, Columbia, Cookeville, and Crossville are all within the advisory zone. In Nashville and surrounding Davidson County, gusts could intensify Sunday evening as a stronger weather system approaches from the west.

Loose outdoor items such as trash cans, patio furniture, and temporary signage could easily be blown around. Utility crews often see isolated outages during wind events of this strength when branches contact power lines.

Drivers of box trucks, campers, and tractor-trailers should slow down on exposed bridges and elevated roadways. Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects and charge devices in case brief outages occur.

The strongest gusts are expected Sunday afternoon through late evening, with winds easing after 1 a.m. Monday. Additional weather advisories may be issued as the system moves deeper into the Tennessee Valley.
