HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Residents across northern Alabama are facing dangerous heat through Tuesday evening as a heat advisory remains in effect for counties west of I-65, where feels-like temperatures are expected to climb as high as 108 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, the advisory runs until 8 p.m. Tuesday and includes Madison, Limestone, Morgan, Cullman, Colbert, Franklin, and Lauderdale counties, along with parts of southern Tennessee. Actual highs are expected in the mid to upper 90s, but humidity will drive heat index values into the triple digits, creating a serious risk of heat-related illness.

Cities including Huntsville, Decatur, Athens, and Florence will see some of the worst conditions Tuesday afternoon, with the hottest stretch expected between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Officials urge residents to avoid prolonged outdoor activity, stay in air-conditioned buildings, and check on elderly neighbors. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration advises outdoor workers to take frequent breaks in shaded or cooled spaces.

Those overcome by heat should be moved to a shaded location immediately and emergency services called. Heat stroke is a medical emergency.

The advisory is expected to expire Tuesday night, with temperatures easing slightly by midweek as scattered thunderstorms bring some relief.
