Huntsville, Ala. – North Alabama will see a return to dangerous heat through early next week as hot, humid air builds in across the Tennessee Valley. Afternoon highs will push into the mid- to upper 90s from Saturday through Tuesday, with heat index readings approaching or topping 100 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, conditions will remain dry through the weekend, but the combination of heat and humidity will create dangerous outdoor conditions, especially during the peak afternoon hours. Saturday’s highs will range from 91 to 96 degrees, climbing to near 98 degrees by Monday. Overnight lows will stay warm, in the lower to mid-70s.
Residents in Huntsville, Decatur, and Florence should limit strenuous outdoor activities to early morning or evening hours. Officials advise drinking plenty of water, wearing light clothing, and checking on vulnerable neighbors and pets. Air conditioning or access to cooling centers is recommended during the hottest part of the day.
The heat is expected to persist into Tuesday, with no significant rain relief in sight. Additional advisories are possible if heat index values exceed forecast levels.
