Huntsville, AL – Cooler air is settling back into the Tennessee Valley, bringing a return to sweater weather tonight through early next week, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, northwesterly winds will usher in cooler temperatures tonight, with overnight lows falling into the low to mid-30s across much of north Alabama. Some sheltered areas could see even colder readings in the 20s by early Sunday morning.

Sunday will remain cool but seasonable, with afternoon highs staying in the low to mid-40s, making it feel noticeably chillier than recent days. Breezy conditions may add an extra bite to the air, especially during the morning hours.

The cooler pattern is expected to persist into early next week. Monday highs will climb slightly into the upper 40s to near 50, followed by a warmer Tuesday, when highs could reach the mid-50s. Despite the gradual warmup during the day, overnight temperatures will remain cold, with lows generally in the mid-20s to near 30 through Monday night.

Communities impacted include Huntsville, Decatur, Athens, Florence, and surrounding parts of north Alabama and southern Tennessee.

While no hazardous weather is expected, residents are encouraged to dress warmly, especially during early morning and evening hours. Those with sensitive plants, pets, or exposed plumbing may want to take precautions during the coldest nights.

The National Weather Service notes that temperatures are near seasonal averages for January, and no winter precipitation is expected at this time.
