Nashville, Tennessee – A warmer and wetter-than-normal weather pattern is favored across the Tennessee Valley from Jan. 7 through Jan. 11, according to the latest outlook from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center.

The 6–10 day temperature outlook shows a strong signal for above-normal temperatures across Tennessee, northern Alabama, northern Mississippi, southern Kentucky, and northwest Georgia. Probabilities favor milder-than-average conditions throughout the period, continuing a trend of limited sustained cold across the region.

The 6–10 day precipitation outlook also indicates above-normal precipitation is likely across much of the Tennessee Valley. This suggests an active pattern with multiple weather systems capable of producing repeated rounds of rain rather than prolonged dry conditions.

With temperatures expected to remain above early January averages, rain is expected to be the primary precipitation type across most of the valley. Any wintry precipitation would be confined mainly to higher elevations or brief overnight windows, particularly along the Cumberland Plateau and far northern areas.

The Climate Prediction Center notes that these outlooks reflect overall trends rather than day-by-day forecasts. Short-lived cooler periods remain possible, but the dominant signal points toward mild and unsettled weather.

For commuters, students, and freight traffic along major corridors such as I-40, I-65, and I-24, the pattern may lead to wet roads, reduced visibility, and periodic travel slowdowns, especially during heavier rain events.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts from the National Weather Service as the Jan. 7–11 period approaches and forecast confidence continues to improve.
