HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Thunderstorms will help ring in the first day of fall across the Tennessee Valley on Monday, bringing cooler-than-normal conditions and scattered showers through midweek. Highs are expected to stay in the upper 70s to low 80s, a noticeable dip from the recent late-summer heat.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, storm chances will range from 15 to 30 percent on Monday before increasing to near 50 percent Tuesday and Wednesday. The unsettled pattern may bring locally heavy downpours, lightning, and brief gusty winds across Madison, Limestone, and Morgan counties, with commutes on I-65 and I-565 potentially slowed by wet roads.

Rain will taper off by Thursday, but isolated thunderstorms could still develop, mainly during the afternoon. Overnight lows will fall into the low 60s, with some spots dipping into the upper 50s by late week.

Residents are urged to keep rain gear handy and allow extra time for morning and evening travel. Outdoor events and after-school activities could face brief delays due to passing storms.

The National Weather Service says storm chances diminish by late Thursday, with drier conditions possible heading into the weekend.
