Nashville, TN – A man was fatally struck by a freight train in South Nashville early Monday morning, authorities said.
According to a release from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the man was hit behind the 5200 block of Hickory Hollow Parkway by a CSX freight train. The incident occurred as the train emerged from a curve, where two engineers aboard reported seeing the individual standing on the tracks at a distance of roughly 200 to 300 yards.
Despite repeated warnings with the train’s horn, the man allegedly remained motionless. Emergency braking was applied, but the train was unable to stop in time. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Medical Examiner’s Office is working alongside the police to confirm the identity of the deceased. No foul play has been publicly alleged at this stage of the investigation, and it is unclear why the man was on the tracks.
Authorities have not released further details, including the potential age or description of the individual. CSX and law enforcement are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
Anyone with information that might assist investigators is encouraged to contact Nashville Crime Stoppers.
