Lebanon, TN – Drivers traveling along Interstate 40 in Wilson County are facing major delays Friday night after a multi-vehicle crash shut down multiple lanes near mile marker 242.

According to the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, westbound I-40 is closed indefinitely at the 242 mile marker due to the accident. On the eastbound side, an additional lane has also been shut down at mile marker 242.2, creating traffic backups in both directions.

Authorities are urging motorists to use caution and expect significant delays when traveling through the area. Officials also advise drivers to seek alternate routes if possible, as the closures are expected to remain in place for an extended period.

Emergency crews are on scene working to clear the wreckage, but no estimated reopening time has been provided. It is not yet clear how many vehicles were involved in the crash or whether any injuries occurred.

I-40 serves as a major east-west route through Middle Tennessee, and the shutdown is impacting travel between Lebanon and the greater Nashville area. Drivers headed westbound into Nashville and eastbound toward Cookeville may encounter longer travel times as traffic diverts onto side roads.

This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
