Nashville, TN – A 72-year-old man from Hopkinsville, Kentucky, was fatally struck Thursday evening in a multi-vehicle crash on I-24 West near mile marker 42.8, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

The incident happened around 5:50 p.m. Thursday when the victim, who had been a passenger in an older model Chevrolet Impala, exited the disabled vehicle on the interstate’s right shoulder. Police said the Impala had two flat tires, and the man had been walking along the roadway attempting to locate a mile marker to give to a wrecker service before the crash occurred.

According to investigators, the driver of the Impala reported seeing multiple motorists brake and then drive off after the collision. No drivers remained at the scene. One motorist later contacted authorities, believing they had struck a deer. Crash investigators determined that person was not involved in the fatal impact.

Police are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone who may have seen the crash or has dashcam footage to contact Metro Nashville’s Traffic Division at 615-862-7738.
