Nashville, TN – An accused murderer was arrested Tuesday night in Nashville following a dramatic vehicle takedown on Dickerson Pike, bringing a months-long homicide investigation to a close.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, Specialized Investigations Division detectives apprehended 25-year-old Derek Michael Randolph after executing a tactical stop of the stolen Kia Forte he was allegedly driving. Authorities reported that a pistol, fentanyl, crack cocaine and marijuana were recovered inside the vehicle.
The arrest follows an investigation led by Homicide Unit Detective David Boone, who identified Randolph as the alleged gunman in a fatal shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of April 19 at Honeysuckle Market, 167 Lafayette Street. The incident reportedly took place as a Jeep Cherokee was pulling away from gas pumps, with Randolph allegedly opening fire on the vehicle. Michael Robinson, 37, a Memphis resident visiting Nashville, was fatally shot, while one of his four passengers was allegedly wounded. Investigators indicated that the shooting appeared unprovoked.
Following his arrest, Randolph was transported to police headquarters, where he declined to make a statement. He was later booked into the Metro Jail. A judicial commissioner set his bond at $495,000 on one count of criminal homicide and four counts of attempted criminal homicide, according to police records.
Officials say the investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to process evidence and interview witnesses. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact Metro Nashville Police.
