Shelby County, TN – Three teenagers in Southeast Shelby County are facing charges after authorities say they shared threatening social media posts involving schools.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), detectives charged the juveniles with Threats of Mass Violence on school property or at a school-related activity after investigating a post circulating online. The posts reportedly showed photos of multiple assault-style weapons and handguns lying on the floor with a text threat directed at public schools.
SCSO said it learned of the post on Sunday, September 29, 2025. Detectives quickly identified three suspects, ages 13, 13, and 15. One attends an area high school, while the other two are middle school students from separate schools. Working with SCSO Homeland Security and School Resource Officers, investigators conducted follow-up interviews with the teens and their parents. Officials said all three had shared the same threatening message. Each was issued a Juvenile Summons.
“Thanks to our investigators’ quick and thorough work, we were able to identify those involved and bring this situation to a safe resolution,” Chief Deputy Anthony Buckner said in a statement. He added that every threat to schools is taken seriously and urged parents to remind children about the serious consequences of making or reposting threats.
The sheriff’s office emphasized that what may appear to be a joke or passing comment online can still lead to significant legal consequences.
