Nashville, Tenn. –Nashville residents should brace for a sweltering Sunday as dangerous heat and pop-up thunderstorms threaten the area starting July 20.

According to the National Weather Service, highs will soar to 97°F Sunday afternoon with heat index values reaching 105°F. A 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected, especially after 4 p.m. Motorists on I-40 and I-65 should watch for sudden downpours and reduced visibility late in the day. Winds will remain calm, making it harder for heat to dissipate.

Monday brings similar conditions: sunny, sticky, and hot with a slight chance of afternoon storms and a high again near 97°F. Patchy fog is likely Monday night, particularly on rural roads and low-lying areas.

By midweek, storm chances diminish slightly, but triple-digit “feels-like” temperatures persist. Tuesday through Thursday will feature mostly sunny skies and highs between 97°F and 98°F. Storm chances return briefly Wednesday and Thursday afternoons (20% each day).

This extended stretch of heat marks one of July’s hottest weeks yet for Middle Tennessee.

Warnings remain in effect through Thursday. More advisories may be issued if storm chances increase.
