Memphis, Tennessee – A sweltering Friday has gripped the Mid-South, with temperatures in Memphis pushing toward 94°F and a heat index near 103. Drivers on I-240 and throughout Shelby County are being urged to limit travel during peak hours and stay hydrated as oppressive humidity builds into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. CDT Friday for West Tennessee, East Arkansas, North Mississippi, and Southeast Missouri. The advisory spans dozens of counties, including DeSoto, Fayette, Crittenden, Tipton, and Shelby.

The heat breaks slightly by Saturday as scattered thunderstorms return by late afternoon, bringing brief relief but introducing the risk of downpours and lightning. Memphis and surrounding areas like Bartlett, Olive Branch, and Southaven should expect storm chances to rise to 40% Saturday evening, increasing to 60% on Sunday.

As summer intensifies, this weekend will feature a pattern of heat by day and storms by night, with temperatures holding in the low 90s through midweek.
