Memphis, TN — Tennessee’s spring weather is turning dangerous, with Memphis under a flash flood warning and rain continuing through Saturday night.
The National Weather Service warns that up to 4 inches of rainfall could hit the Memphis area by tonight, on top of already saturated ground. Flash flooding is already ongoing in parts of Shelby County, especially along low-lying roads and highways, including sections of I-40. Flood watches and warnings remain in effect through early Saturday due to the heightened risk.
According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected to persist into Friday and Saturday, with rainfall rates over an inch per hour at times. Localized flooding is likely in urban areas, small creeks, and underpasses. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and heed barricades and closure signs. Never drive through standing water.
Thursday night will bring severe storms and intense rainfall, followed by more showers Friday and Saturday. Highs will reach the low 80s Friday and upper 70s Saturday. Rain could ease by late Sunday.
