Memphis, Tennessee – Major flooding continues along the Mississippi River in Tennessee, threatening travel routes and riverside neighborhoods through Friday, April 25. The National Weather Service has extended a Flood Warning for Memphis and surrounding areas, citing persistent high water near critical roads including I-55 and U.S. 61.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, river levels reached 37.4 feet Friday night—well above the 34.0-foot flood stage. Water has already begun covering grain terminals in Arkansas and a fuel facility south of the river gauge in Memphis. Motorists should avoid low-lying areas and never drive through barricades or water-covered roads.

Spring weather will intensify heading into Easter Sunday, with an 80% chance of thunderstorms Sunday night, followed by widespread rain and possible flash flooding through Monday. Winds could gust up to 25 mph, increasing the risk of tree limbs falling or power disruptions. Dry, milder air returns briefly Tuesday before another storm system rolls in midweek.
