
Memphis, Tenn. – Damaging storms capable of producing large hail, tornadoes, and 80 mph wind gusts are expected across West Tennessee and the northern Mid-South beginning at 3 p.m. Friday and lasting into the early morning hours of Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the Moderate Risk (Level 4 of 5) zone now includes Memphis, Jackson, and Union City, with a Level 3 Enhanced Risk extending into northern Mississippi and eastern Arkansas. The storm window runs from 3 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday, with movement from northwest to southeast.
Cities like Dyersburg, Jonesboro, and Blytheville are likely to see strong rotating thunderstorms capable of producing long-track tornadoes, hail up to 2 inches in diameter, and widespread wind damage. Flash flooding is also possible in low-lying and poorly drained areas.
Residents should avoid unnecessary travel after 3 p.m., secure outdoor items, and keep devices charged. NOAA Weather Radios and mobile alerts are strongly recommended overnight as the most dangerous storms may arrive after dark.
Storm coverage is expected to remain scattered but intense. Additional briefings and potential warnings are expected throughout the day.
