Nashville, Tenn. – Strong thunderstorms are expected to sweep across Middle and West Tennessee this afternoon and evening, with threats of damaging winds and large hail posing risks to both travel and property through 10 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Nashville and Memphis, isolated to scattered severe storms are likely from noon to late evening across the region. Areas under a Level 2 (Slight Risk) include Nashville, Clarksville, Columbia, and Memphis, where wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph and hail may exceed one-quarter inch in diameter.

In Nashville, storms may begin to intensify by early afternoon, with potential to disrupt afternoon commutes along I-40 and I-65. Memphis residents should expect storms to develop between 2 and 9 p.m., especially south of the metro area near Cleveland and Grenada. Tornado and flash flooding threats remain low, but brief power outages and downed limbs are possible.

Drivers are urged to remain weather-aware and avoid travel during severe storms. Secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and monitor local alerts in case warnings are issued.

The storm system is expected to weaken overnight, but additional storms could redevelop Friday evening. Stay tuned for updates from the NWS and local emergency officials.
