Memphis, Tenn. – Scattered severe storms could impact parts of Arkansas, Tennessee, and northern Mississippi late Sunday, bringing damaging wind gusts and isolated hail as they sweep northeast across the Mid-South.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the greatest risk will occur between 8 p.m. and midnight Sunday, particularly along and west of the Mississippi River. Affected areas include Jonesboro, Paragould, and Memphis, where storms may briefly intensify before weakening as they move into West Tennessee and north Mississippi.

Wind gusts up to 60 mph are the main concern, though hail up to the size of quarters is also possible. A tornado cannot be ruled out in stronger cells embedded within the storm line. While the threat is short-lived, drivers should remain alert on I-55 and I-40, especially near Memphis and into northeast Arkansas.

Residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive warnings tonight. If storms intensify, brief power outages and downed tree limbs could occur. Have a plan to seek shelter if needed.

Storms are expected to weaken after midnight, but more updates could follow if conditions shift.
