Tennessee Police Officer Critically Injured in Crash During Vice President Escort

Maryville, TN – A Maryville police officer remains in critical condition after being seriously injured during a dignitary protection escort on Friday evening. The crash occurred around 6:11 p.m. on November 14 along East Lamar Alexander Parkway near Merrit Road, according to a statement from the Maryville Police Department.

Officials said FTO Justin Brown was providing escort detail for Vice President JD Vance when his police motorcycle collided with a Tennessee Highway Patrol SUV. Chief Tony Crisp said citizens at the scene immediately rushed in to provide urgent first aid, a response he credited with saving the officer’s life. “To those individuals whose quick response saved FTO Brown’s life last night, we could never thank you enough. You are true heroes,” Crisp said.

Brown was transported by AMR to the University of Tennessee hospital, where he remains in critical condition with significant injuries. He underwent surgery at 10 a.m. Saturday. Chief Crisp praised AMR personnel for their rapid response and the UT medical staff for their ongoing, expert care.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the crash. No further details regarding the cause have been released.

Chief Crisp also acknowledged the overwhelming support the department has received since the incident. “We are grateful for each and every one and appreciate the prayers and support from all over the state,” he said. “Our hearts and prayers also go out to the trooper involved in the crash.”

Local, state and federal agencies are assisting Maryville Police during the ongoing response. Chief Crisp asked the community to continue keeping FTO Brown, his family and his medical team in their thoughts.
