Memphis, TN – Dangerous heat continues to grip the Mid-South as extreme heat warnings remain in effect across West Tennessee, North Mississippi, East Arkansas, and parts of southeast Missouri until 8 p.m. Thursday. Residents from Memphis and Jonesboro to Tupelo and Jackson face life-threatening conditions as the heat index soars to 110 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the region will experience oppressive heat and humidity, with warnings covering dozens of counties and cities. Heat index values are forecast to reach up to 110 in areas including Shelby, DeSoto, Craighead, and Mississippi counties. A slightly lower—but still hazardous—heat index of 108 is expected for Tupelo, Oxford, Corinth, and Lexington.

City officials and emergency management agencies warn that heat-related illnesses will surge under these conditions. Power companies urge residents to conserve electricity as high demand strains the grid. Outdoor workers, children, and seniors are most at risk; cooling centers are open in Memphis, West Memphis, Tupelo, and Jackson.
