Memphis, Tennessee – Isolated severe storms could disrupt Memorial Day celebrations across Tennessee on Monday, with damaging winds and large hail expected between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, strong to severe thunderstorms may develop across western and central parts of the state as storm cells track from southwest to northeast. A Level 1 risk zone covers Memphis, Jackson, and areas stretching east toward Columbia and Union City. While the severe threat is limited, the primary dangers are wind gusts strong enough to down trees and hail capable of damaging vehicles and rooftops.
Cities along the I-40 corridor, including Bartlett and Brownsville, may see quick-hitting storms that produce sudden hazards. Local emergency officials urge residents to secure outdoor items, charge electronics, and monitor weather updates throughout the day. Heavy rain could briefly flood low-lying streets, especially in urban areas.
Storm activity is expected to taper off Monday night, but more unsettled weather could return later this week. Additional updates will be issued as needed through the NWS and local emergency channels.
