Nashville, TN – A 22-year-old man is being held without bond after allegedly shooting and killing a 42-year-old victim Thursday night in a case of mistaken identity outside a Nashville apartment complex.

According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the shooting occurred in the parking lot of a complex on Old Franklin Road. Investigators determined the suspect, identified as Dorian Brooks, 22, was in a domestic dispute with his girlfriend as she moved out of their shared residence.

During the altercation, police said Brooks’ girlfriend told him her ex-boyfriend was coming to help. At the same time, the 42-year-old victim—who had no connection to the couple—was driving into the parking lot. Detectives reported that Brooks admitted to firing at the vehicle without knowing who was inside.

The victim was struck multiple times and found beside his car. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died, according to police.

Authorities recovered a handgun near a tree behind the building. Witnesses helped officers locate Brooks, who was taken into custody at the scene.

Police confirmed Friday that Brooks has been charged with criminal homicide.
