Memphis, TN – A Shelby County man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he fled deputies during an auto burglary call in Southeast Shelby County and led officers on a pursuit into Mississippi last week.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 12:34 a.m. Thursday, September 12, 2025, to reports of an auto burglary at the Tapestry Forest Creek Apartments on Hammer Mill Cove. Deputies say they located the suspect inside a vehicle and attempted to make an arrest, but the suspect allegedly accelerated toward them and fled the scene.

The pursuit continued into DeSoto County, MS, where local deputies took over. According to the report, DeSoto County deputies deployed spike strips to disable the suspect’s vehicle, ultimately taking him into custody without further incident.

The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Jarius Henderson of Olive Branch, was charged in Mississippi with felony theft of property and felony evading arrest. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has also issued warrants for aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer and evading arrest.

Court records show Henderson has a prior criminal history in Shelby County, including guilty pleas in May 2025 for theft of firearms, property theft, and aggravated burglary. He was previously sentenced to supervised probation.

Sheriff Floyd Bonner, Jr. thanked the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office for their coordination in the case. Henderson’s extradition to Shelby County is pending.
