Lexington, Ky. – A blistering stretch of heat is gripping Kentucky and parts of eastern Tennessee, with heat indices expected to soar past 100°F starting Sunday afternoon and intensify through midweek.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Louisville, Jackson, and Morristown, high temperatures in the upper 80s to mid-90s will combine with oppressive humidity to push “feels-like” temperatures well into triple digits through at least Wednesday. Some areas—including Pikeville, London, and Monticello—could see heat indices reach 105°F by midweek.
Cities across central and eastern Kentucky, including Lexington, Richmond, and Hazard, will see minimal overnight relief. Lows in the 70s mean heat risks will compound each day. In Tennessee, Knoxville, Morristown, and Chattanooga are also under increased threat from prolonged heat exposure.
Health officials urge residents to stay indoors during peak heat hours, hydrate frequently, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity. Air conditioning checks, especially for the elderly and vulnerable populations, are strongly recommended. Children and pets should never be left in parked vehicles.
This heat wave is expected to linger through Thursday, with additional advisories likely. Follow updates from the NWS and local emergency agencies.
