According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, an Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for the Mississippi and Arkansas Delta region, including Clarksdale and Forrest City, where apparent temperatures could peak between 110°F and 113°F. A Heat Advisory covers the wider area, including Memphis, Oxford, Tupelo, and Jackson, where heat indices will remain above 105°F.
The NWS warns that prolonged exposure without proper hydration can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor activity during peak hours, check on vulnerable neighbors, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. Cooling centers are recommended for those without air conditioning.
Memphis is expected to hit a heat index of 110°F, with Jonesboro, Jackson, and Bolivar close behind at 107°F. Even areas like Paris and Union City will feel like 106°F.
Extreme heat alerts remain active until 9 p.m. tonight, and additional advisories may be issued if conditions persist.
