Memphis, Tenn. – West Tennessee residents are facing intense heat this weekend, with heat index values climbing as high as 107° through Sunday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday and will resume from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. The advisory covers Shelby, Madison, Obion, Dyer, and Henry counties, among others, with the highest impacts expected in cities like Memphis, Jackson, and Union City.

The combination of high humidity and scorching temperatures significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses. Health officials urge residents to stay indoors during peak hours, use air conditioning, and drink plenty of fluids. Vulnerable groups — especially the elderly and those without reliable cooling — should be closely monitored.

Outdoor workers and travelers on I-40 and I-55 are advised to take precautions. OSHA recommends frequent shaded breaks and hydration to avoid heat exhaustion or stroke.

Though not uncommon in June, this level of heat in June is notable and dangerous. Officials warn that conditions could continue into next week, with further advisories possible if temperatures remain high.
