Memphis, Tenn. – West Tennessee will bake under dangerously high temperatures today as heat indices soar as high as 109°F across the region, prompting a heat advisory through 8 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the advisory affects nearly all of the Mid-South, including Memphis, Jackson, and surrounding counties. The advisory is active from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, with peak heat indices expected between 105°F and 109°F. Officials urge residents to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged time outdoors.

Cities like Bolivar, Holly Springs, and Clarksdale are expected to see heat indices between 106°F and 109°F, making it feel significantly hotter than the actual air temperature. The National Weather Service warns that prolonged exposure without proper hydration or cooling can lead to heat-related illness. Afternoon activities should be limited, especially for those without air conditioning or access to shade.

Residents are advised to check on elderly neighbors, avoid strenuous outdoor activity, and never leave pets or children in vehicles. Lightweight, light-colored clothing and frequent hydration are strongly recommended.
