Nashville, Tenn. – Heat and humidity are pushing Middle Tennessee to its limits, with a dangerous heat index peaking near 106 degrees and a heat advisory locked in until 8 p.m. Wednesday. Residents from Cookeville to McMinnville, Smithville, and beyond are facing real risks of heat-related illness as temperatures remain relentless.

According to the National Weather Service, this advisory covers Macon, Clay, Trousdale, Smith, Jackson, Putnam, Overton, Cannon, DeKalb, White, Coffee, Warren, Grundy, and Van Buren counties, including cities such as Tullahoma, Lafayette, Livingston, and Manchester. Officials urge everyone to limit outdoor activity, drink extra water, and check in on vulnerable neighbors. With feels-like temperatures at or above 105°, heat exhaustion and heat stroke become urgent threats—especially for those without air conditioning.

Local health officials recommend using public cooling centers if at home cooling is unavailable, and never leaving children or pets in parked vehicles—even for a minute. Emergency crews report increased calls for heat-related emergencies along highways and outdoor work sites, echoing the extended July heat wave seen in 2023.

The advisory holds until 8 p.m. Wednesday, but continued heat could lead to further alerts. Stay tuned to trusted weather sources and be prepared for updates as the week continues.
