Memphis, Tenn. – Friday, August 1st will crank up the heat again in Memphis as the summer sun and humidity combine for a heat index near 100° — and the roads won’t offer much relief. Motorists on I-40 and I-240 should expect steamy pavement and possible delays as the Extreme Heat Warning lingers until 8 p.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, Friday’s high will reach 96°F under partly sunny skies, with a 20% chance of afternoon thunderstorms. North-northeast winds will shift slightly, but cooling will be minimal. Hydration, shade, and limiting outdoor activity remain critical for anyone working outside or traveling through Shelby County.

Friday night brings modest relief, with lows around 69°F and calm winds. Saturday offers more sun and slightly cooler highs near 88°F — the first real break from oppressive heat in days. Sunday stays sunny and seasonably warm with a high of 89°F.

Looking ahead, Monday brings another round of scattered storms after 1 p.m., with highs holding near 89°F. Tuesday and Wednesday dry out again, both featuring sunny skies and highs in the low 90s.

Residents should continue monitoring local updates, especially those with vulnerable health conditions or without adequate air conditioning. While this weekend may feel more manageable, heat safety remains a top priority.

⚠️ Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday. Stay informed, stay hydrated, and stay safe.
