Ripley, TN – A flash flood warning is in effect for central Lauderdale County until 4 p.m. Wednesday as heavy rainfall continues to impact the area.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have already fallen, with an additional 0.5 to 1.5 inches expected. Flash flooding is either ongoing or imminent, particularly in low-lying areas, urban streets, and highways.
Communities at risk include Ripley, Fort Pillow, Henning, and surrounding areas such as Luckett, Glimp, and Lightfoot. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and take necessary precautions.
Authorities warn that most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles. Drivers should never attempt to cross flooded roadways and should seek alternate routes when necessary.
The heavy rain is being caused by slow-moving thunderstorms, which continue to bring intense downpours across the region. The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor local forecasts and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
