Knoxville, TN – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for East Tennessee and Southwest North Carolina on Saturday due to strong winds and low humidity, creating critical fire weather conditions. The warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. EST (10 a.m. CST) to 8 p.m. EST (7 p.m. CST).
According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, west to northwest winds will range from 12 to 18 mph, with gusts reaching 25 mph. Additionally, humidity levels will drop below 30%, with some areas experiencing values near 20%, significantly increasing wildfire risks.
The affected areas include cities such as Knoxville, Chattanooga, and Johnson City, along with counties spanning Scott, Campbell, Knox, Sevier, Hamilton, and Polk, among others.
Officials strongly discourage outdoor burning, as any fires that ignite could spread rapidly under these conditions. Residents should take extra precautions, including securing flammable materials and reporting any signs of wildfire activity to authorities.
A Red Flag Warning is issued when a combination of strong winds, low humidity, and dry conditions increase the likelihood of wildfires.
