Rutherford County, TN – Residents are encouraged to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription medications during the upcoming DEA Drug Take Back Day, hosted by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies will collect medications the next two Saturdays as part of the nationwide effort to prevent prescription drug misuse.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the Strategies and Tactics for Opioid Prevention (STOP) Unit will accept medications from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center (200 StoneCrest Blvd., Smyrna) and again from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Nissan Smyrna Assembly Plant (983 Nissan Dr., Smyrna).
Both collection sites will accept pills and capsules but cannot take liquid medications or needles. Officials say the initiative helps prevent prescription drugs from being misused or improperly discarded.
For those unable to attend, the Sheriff’s Office maintains a permanent drop box in the main lobby at 940 New Salem Highway in Murfreesboro, available year-round for safe medication disposal.
This community event is part of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back program, aimed at reducing the risk of drug addiction and overdose deaths by removing unused medications from homes.
