Knoxville, TN – A Knoxville deputy and a probationary officer were injured late Sunday night after their patrol vehicle was struck head-on while responding to a reported fight at the Ingles parking lot in Halls.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 10 p.m. as the two deputies were en route to the active scene. Their vehicle was hit by another car, driven by an adult male, under still-unclear circumstances that remain under investigation.
Emergency crews responded quickly, transporting the deputy to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment. The extent of the deputy’s injuries has not been disclosed, though updates are expected as evaluations continue. The probationary officer accompanying the deputy did not require medical treatment.
The adult male in the second vehicle also sustained injuries, but the sheriff’s office has not released further details on his condition. Investigators are currently working to determine what led to the crash.
In a statement, Sheriff Tom Spangler commended the bravery of the department’s personnel: “Our deputies put their lives on the line daily to keep our communities safe. We are grateful for the swift response from emergency services and will provide all necessary support to our injured deputy and their family during this time.”
