Madison County, TN – A carjacking in Beech Bluff escalated into a multi-county pursuit and violent crash that left one juvenile suspect and a sheriff’s deputy injured, authorities said.
According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 4 p.m. Saturday when a male victim reported being carjacked outside a Dollar General store in Beech Bluff. The victim told deputies that two armed suspects confronted him, struck him in the head with a handgun and fled in his vehicle after stealing several personal belongings.
Deputies spotted the stolen vehicle shortly after 4:15 p.m. and attempted a traffic stop, officials said. The suspects allegedly refused to stop, sparking a chase through Madison County and into Gibson County.
The pursuit ended near the intersection of Highway 79 South and South Main Street in Gibson, where the stolen vehicle collided with a sheriff’s patrol car. Three male juveniles were inside the stolen car at the time of the crash. Two were arrested immediately at the scene, while a third was struck by gunfire from a Madison County deputy during the incident, investigators said.
Authorities reported that the injured suspect sustained a non-life-threatening wound to the arm and was hospitalized. The deputy also suffered a non-life-threatening head injury and was taken to a hospital.
All three juveniles were taken into custody and face charges of aggravated robbery, carjacking and possession of a weapon. The sheriff’s office said one of the suspects was already out on bond for a separate robbery charge.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has launched an independent review into the officer-involved shooting. Officials said additional charges may be filed as the case remains active.
Authorities thanked the Humboldt Police Department, Gibson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson Police Department, and local first responders for their assistance in the incident.
