Memphis, TN – Warm and dry conditions are expected to hold through Friday, but a major weather shift is on the way for the Mid-South this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a strong cold front will move through late Saturday afternoon into Saturday night, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms across the region. Some storms could be severe, especially in western Tennessee and northern Mississippi.

Forecast models show rain chances rising sharply to 70–90% by Saturday evening, with the heaviest rainfall expected overnight into Sunday morning. The NWS reports that cities including Memphis, Jonesboro, Corinth, and Tupelo could see the most significant precipitation, while dry and mild weather will dominate through the rest of the work week.

The cold front is expected to usher in cooler, less humid air by Sunday, offering a noticeable change from the week’s unseasonably warm conditions.

Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts for updated alerts and possible severe weather watches later this week. Outdoor plans on Saturday should include backup arrangements as storms become more likely after 4 p.m.
