Clarksville, Tenn. – Tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail threaten communities along the Tennessee-Kentucky border through Tuesday evening as severe thunderstorms sweep across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a Level 3 Enhanced Risk is in effect for west Kentucky and bordering parts of northwest Tennessee, including Clarksville, Jackson, and Murray. Storm redevelopment is expected between noon and 3 p.m., with the most dangerous activity likely moving east through the late afternoon.
Supercells capable of producing strong tornadoes, wind gusts over 60 mph, and hail larger than golf balls are possible. Areas under the greatest threat include Mayfield, Hopkinsville, and Paris, Tenn. Localized flooding may also occur due to intense downpours.
Residents are urged to avoid non-essential travel, secure outdoor items, and ensure phones and weather radios are charged. Schools and businesses in some areas may adjust schedules depending on storm development.
This system mirrors past spring outbreaks that have hit the region hard, and the potential for isolated strong tornadoes remains elevated into the evening.
Warnings remain in effect through at least 9 p.m. CDT. Additional watches or alerts could be issued if conditions evolve. Stay tuned to local emergency management and NOAA Weather Radio for updates.
