Cookeville, TN – A reported bomb threat near the old courthouse in Cookeville late Friday night was determined to be false, according to local authorities.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Cookeville Police received a call at approximately 10 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, claiming there was a bomb near the old courthouse on the Square at 300 E. Spring Street. Deputies and police officers responded immediately, securing the area while investigating the report.

Officials later confirmed the threat was not credible, identifying the call as a false report originating from outside the area. No explosive devices were found, and no injuries were reported during the response.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation into the source of the hoax call remains ongoing. Authorities have not yet released details about the caller but emphasized that making false emergency reports is a serious criminal offense.
