Memphis, TN – A widespread tornado outbreak earlier this month brought 32 confirmed tornadoes across Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Missouri, according to updated storm surveys released by the National Weather Service.

The outbreak, which spanned April 2 through April 5, produced tornadoes ranging in strength from EF-0 to EF-3, with multiple long-track storms causing significant damage and several fatalities.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the deadliest tornado occurred in Selmer, Tennessee. Rated EF-3 with winds up to 160 mph, it left a 29-mile path of destruction, killing five people and injuring 14 others. In Senatobia, Mississippi, another EF-3 tornado caused two injuries and destroyed multiple homes along its 12-mile path.

A particularly long-tracked tornado touched down near Slayden, Mississippi, and traveled nearly 40 miles northeast through Grand Junction, Tennessee, killing two and injuring two more. High-end EF-2 and EF-3 tornadoes also struck Lake City, Arkansas, and Walnut Lake near Middleton, Tennessee.

Additional tornadoes, including weaker EF-0 and EF-1 twisters, were reported in Ft. Pillow, Tennessee; Southern Tishomingo, Mississippi; Osceola, Arkansas; and several rural communities across the Mid-South. While many of these storms caused tree damage, downed power lines, and roof damage to homes and barns, they resulted in no reported injuries or deaths.

Emergency officials said the high tornado count highlights the importance of early warning systems and community preparedness during severe weather season.

The National Weather Service is continuing to review data, and survey results remain subject to change as further assessments are completed.

This marks one of the most active severe weather episodes to begin an April in recent Mid-South history.
