Huntsville, Ala. – Damaging winds and possible thunderstorms could sweep through northern Alabama and southern middle Tennessee between 10 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday, prompting a Level 3 severe weather risk across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, strong to severe storms are expected to develop after sunset in northwest Alabama, moving southeast overnight. Areas under the highest risk include Florence, Russellville, Huntsville, and Fort Payne, with the window for the most intense activity varying by location—starting as early as 10 p.m. in the west and continuing through 5 a.m. farther east.
Wind gusts will be the primary threat, with medium confidence in widespread damaging winds. The risk of hail and isolated tornadoes remains low but cannot be ruled out. Cities like Fayetteville and Stevenson in southern Tennessee are also in the potential impact zone.
Residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, especially those capable of waking them overnight. Seek sturdy indoor shelter during warnings, avoid outdoor plans, and charge devices in case of power outages.
Severe weather risks diminish after sunrise Saturday, but additional updates or alerts may be issued if storm tracks shift. Stay weather aware through the night.
