Memphis, Tennessee – A strong heat surge will push temperatures across Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi into the upper 80s to near 90 degrees by Saturday afternoon, increasing humidity and raising the risk of late-day thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, there is an 80 to 90 percent probability of above-normal temperatures across the Mid-South and Deep South through early next week. West Tennessee, northern Mississippi, and central Alabama—including Memphis, Jackson, and Birmingham—are in a high-confidence zone for sustained warmth.

Memphis is expected to reach the upper 80s between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, with similar conditions extending south along I-55 into Jackson, Mississippi. Birmingham could climb into the upper 80s, while areas along I-20 and I-65 heat quickly under partly sunny skies and increasing humidity.

By late afternoon into the evening, Gulf moisture will fuel scattered showers and thunderstorms across all three states. Storms may produce brief heavy rain, lightning, and wind gusts over 40 mph, especially along I-40, I-55, I-20, and I-65, potentially disrupting travel and outdoor plans.

Residents should stay hydrated, limit strenuous activity during peak heat, and remain weather-aware during the evening commute. This pattern will persist through the weekend into early next week, with additional advisories likely as heat and storm chances continue.
