Huntsville, Alabama – Residents across north central and northwest Alabama, along with portions of southern middle Tennessee, are facing dangerously high heat as a major Heat Advisory continues until 7 p.m. Thursday. Afternoon heat index values could soar between 102 and 109 degrees, pushing local emergency services to urge extra caution.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, the advisory covers cities including Huntsville, Florence, Russellville, Cullman, and stretches into Lincoln and Moore counties in Tennessee. The combination of mid-90s air temperatures and stifling humidity is making outdoor conditions hazardous, especially during peak afternoon hours.

Public safety agencies are urging everyone to limit strenuous activity outdoors, stay hydrated, and avoid direct sun from noon through early evening. If air conditioning is available, use it—fans alone may not be enough. Lightweight, light-colored clothing is recommended, and neighbors should check on those without adequate cooling.

This level of heat risk can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses if precautions aren’t taken. Local schools, businesses, and city offices are reminding residents to charge mobile devices and prepare for potential power strain.

The Heat Advisory remains in effect through 7 p.m. Thursday, with the possibility of further alerts if temperatures stay elevated. More information will be issued as conditions develop.
